Work methods with pupils with intellectual disabilities in special elementary schools in Zlínský Region

This diploma thesis deals with work methods that are used in the education of pupils with intellectual disabilities. The aim of the thesis is to find out how teachers work with pupils with intellectual disabilities in special primary schools in the Zlín region. In the mentioned theoretical starting points, intellectual disability is first defined, the educational process and its specifics in the special primary school is mentioned, as well as the work methods that are used in the education of pupils in the special primary school. Information for the qualitative research was obtained using semi-structured interviews, conducted with twelve special education teachers. The obtained data were analyzed using a grounded theory design and open coding technique. The research revealed that special education teachers use a huge number of different teaching aids. They don't use textbooks much, and if they do, then those from Parta, Septima, Taktik and Nová škola publishing houses. In special primary schools in the Zlín region, they have a Snoezelen room, perform Basal Stimulation and some also provide individual speech therapy. They also offer music therapy, canistherapy, hippotherapy, ergotherapy, art therapy, elements of aromatherapy and dramatherapy and orofacial therapy. Some schools have a physiotherapist...

Bachelor thesis is concerned with formation of the first institutions of special education in our country, legislation of the education in past and at present and with historical development of the institutions for mentally disable people. The thesis is devided into four parts. The first chapter is concerned with stages of the attitude to disable people. The second part describes history and the founding of the school for special education in Bohemia and Moravia. The third part is devided into two chapters. The first part deals with law education from 1774 to 1989. The second part describes current law education and regulations. The last part is concerned with history and present of special elementary school " Klíček" in Tábor - Záluží. This diploma thesis is focused on leisure activities for children with moderate and severe mental retardation. The theoretical framework demonstrates the degrees of mental retardation, and in addition, integration and inclusion issues in education are discussed. This part of the diploma thesis acquaints with potential leisure centres and presents various forms of leisure activities for children with moderate and severe mental retardation. The practical application part identifies specific leisure activity options and in a collaboration with leisure centres it provides a comprehensive overview of leisure activities for children with moderate and severe mental retardation in Kolin and Nymburk region. It also captures parental interest in these leisure activities.
Problematic behavior of pupils with autism and moderate mental retardation

This diploma thesis focuses on the topic of problematic behaviour of pupils with autism and medium mental retardation in an educational process. The main aim of this work is to learn about and describe teaching staff's experience with the occurrence and ways of handling problematic behaviour of these pupils. The theoretical part describes the basic terms related to autism, mental retardation and it also outlines a historical context of autism, etilogy, its classification and characteristic symptoms. The thesis also focuses on the diagnostic process in the psychological and pedagogical diagnostics, an overview of basic obligatory diagnostic tools is provided. It deals with the legislative framework of the education of pupils with autism and medium mental retardation, it describes the most common educational methods and therapeutic approaches in special schools. Next chapter defines the term problematic behaviour, outlines the diagnostic evaluations and some specific approaches to correcting such behaviour. Basal stimulation concept in the educational process of rehabilitation classes

My theses deals with the use of basal stimulation concept in the treatment of students with combined disabilities in special elementary schools in Czech Republic. The theoretical part includes literary research concerning basal stimulation concept - its origins, development and theoretical foundations and it describes its specific elements and their use in educational programmes for specialized elementary schools. The practical part concentrates on the quantitative survey research with the goal to map the use of the basal stimulation concept in the specialized elementary schools in Czech Republic to find out which specific elements are in the educational process used the most. Survey research discovered that in the educational process with students with serious combined disabilities the concept of basal stimulation is used by 80% of schools. The somatic, vibrational, auditory and tactile-haptic stimulation are used the most. The specific elements used are - somatic massage, adjustment of the position, use of music and use of tactile perception in motor stimulation of the hand.
Application of Snoezelen method in the Special Elementary School pupils´ education process

The theme of the bachelor thesis is Snoezelen method in a connection with the Special Elementary School pupils´ educational process. The educational process forms a part of each individual's life and a use of alternative methods of intervention in the education is a frequently discussed topic, especially with a focus on pupils with special educational needs. The theoretical part provides basic information about the mental retardation and captures terminological definitions. It deals with a classification of the mental retardation, characterizes specifics of an individual´s with mental retardation personality, i.e. it describes concomitants of the mental retardation with a focus on people with moderate and severe mental retardation. The other part deals with the pupils´ education process at the Special Elementary School. It characterizes this process, not only in terms of the legislative framework, but also in terms of therapeutic approaches and methods that can be used in the education. The last chapter already deals with the very Snoezelen method and its application. It describes the history as well as the present, it also mentions requirements for the future. Then there is a section describing basic schemes and principles of the application of Snoezelen method and the space of Snoezelen itself. The empirical part provides information about the content of curricula documents of the Special Elementary School, which are general and school educational programs. In terms of the school educational program, then it is especially the part which deals with the educational area "Man and His World", realized in the educational field of Sensory Education. At the same time, it is also focused on a set of educational documents, which are data sheets of intentionally selected pupils. The familiarization has been accomplished by the content analysis. The observation technique has been used to evaluate the effectiveness of the subject educational unit "Man and His World" realized by the educational field of Sensory Education in the special environment of Snoezelen room. There has been also investigated a benefit of the special environment of Snoezelen room for the development of competencies in the already mentioned subject areas and the educational field. The third and final used technique of the data collection has been semi-structured interviews. This technique aims to introducing of Snoezelen method in the context of the pupils´ needs at the Special Elementary School focusing on the target group of students with moderate and severe mental retardation and determining a contribution of the special environment of Snoezelen room for the development of competencies from the perspective of the school management and teaching staff. The partial aim was to propose a methodical process in the educational field of Sensory Education for the special environment of Snoezelen room that could serve as a source of an inspiration for a targeted support in educational activities within Snoezelen room. Based on the investigation there was found, that Snoezelen concept has its observable benefits and positives. In one thoughtfully prepared Snoezelen unit, with respect for the pupil's individual needs, all the key competences of the educational field can be effectively developed at the same time in the connection with the thematic curriculum and in an extraordinary multi-sensory environment for the pupils.
